Folding bike in Brussels

Brussels has cobbles, hills and busy traffic, but also a dense network of metro, tram and bus. A STRIDA lets you combine them: folded in seconds, it travels free and you ride the last stretch to work or home.

Metro, tram and bus (STIB)

A fully folded folding bike travels free on buses, trams and the metro, at any time of day. A regular bike is only allowed on the metro and low-floor trams, and not on weekdays between 7:00 and 9:00 and between 16:00 and 18:30.

By train (SNCB)

Folded, a folding bike travels free as hand luggage, also in rush hour. A regular bike needs a bike supplement. Take the train to Brussels-Central, -North or -South and ride on.

Bike allowance and your employer

Employers may pay a bicycle allowance of up to €0.37 per kilometre cycled, tax-free up to €3,700 a year (2026). In sectors without their own agreement, at least €0.27 per kilometre is compulsory. A company or lease bike from your employer that you use for commuting is exempt from benefit-in-kind tax. More from the FPS Finance.

Which STRIDA suits Brussels?

The LT and the 5 QR+ have 16 inch wheels and fold the most compact. The SX has 18 inch wheels and rides more calmly over cobbles. A STRIDA has one gear: on the steepest streets you get off and roll it beside you.

Maintenance and repairs in Brussels

Wear parts such as tyres, the belt and brake pads are easy to replace yourself with our manuals, and we keep almost every STRIDA part in stock. If you would rather leave it to someone else, a good local bike repairer can help: ask them to email us at info@strida.be and we will give them advice and the parts they need.

A STRIDA needs little maintenance: no chain to oil and a belt that lasts a long time. And what does need doing, you can mostly do yourself: the wheels are mounted on one side only, so you change a tyre without taking the wheel out of the frame, and our manuals guide you step by step. Still stuck, or no time? Give us the name and e-mail address of a bike shop near you: we will introduce ourselves and help them with advice and parts.

We only use these details to e-mail the bike shop once and send you a copy. We keep them for at most 2 years.
