Folding bike in Ghent

Since its traffic circulation plan Ghent has a largely car-free centre, divided into zones that bikes can cross easily. For commuters via Gent-Sint-Pieters, train plus folding bike is the fastest way into the centre or to the campuses.

Bus and tram (De Lijn)

On De Lijn buses and trams your folding bike travels free, as long as you fold it completely before boarding and keep it folded for the whole ride. Folded, a STRIDA measures approx. 113–115 × 51 × 23 cm.

By train (SNCB)

A folded folding bike travels free as accompanied luggage: fold it before boarding and keep it folded during the journey. A regular bike needs a Bike Supplement ticket.

Bike allowance and your employer

Employers may pay a bicycle allowance of up to €0.37 per kilometre cycled, tax-free up to €3,700 a year (2026). In sectors without their own agreement, at least €0.27 per kilometre is compulsory. A company or lease bike from your employer that you use for commuting is exempt from benefit-in-kind tax. More from the FPS Finance.

Which STRIDA suits Ghent?

In the centre any STRIDA is quick enough; the LT and 5 QR+ are handiest in a student room or on the tram, while the SX rides more calmly on longer rides along the Leie. All three without a chain.

With our manuals you do most jobs yourself, and every part is in stock, for older models too; we deliver all over Belgium. Prefer a bike shop in Ghent? A STRIDA needs little maintenance: no chain to oil and a belt that lasts a long time. And what does need doing, you can mostly do yourself: the wheels are mounted on one side only, so you change a tyre without taking the wheel out of the frame, and our manuals guide you step by step. Still stuck, or no time? Give us the name and e-mail address of a bike shop near you: we will introduce ourselves and help them with advice and parts.

We only use these details to e-mail the bike shop once and send you a copy. We keep them for at most 2 years.
